Good-bye

I haven’t been a Zoner since the very beginning, though sometimes it feels that way. I
was chatting on AIM with my friend Megan when she sent me a link to a site I might
enjoy. That was the Zone BBS, and she was right. Pretty soon I was racking up board
posts, discovering Ventrillo, sneaking on during study hall at school to exchange
quicknotes with friends, and staying up late so I could get the jump on the next day’s
Anagrams word. I made friends from arround the world, and in my late high school and
early college days, those friendships helped keep me going through some pretty rough
times. I’ve been lucky enough to’ve met several of those friends in person, and mourned
with everyone else when someone I’d come to care about left us forever. I haven’t been
on much these days, but I still keep in touch with many of my Zoner pals through Twitter,
and occasionally pop back in for a quick round of Anagrams or perusal of the Boards. This
little slice of the Web has become a family, a large, multinational, highly dysfunctional
family, and while I know the time is right, I’m still sad to see it go. Many thanks to Chris,
JJ, and all the community leaders who’ve kept The Zone afloat for so long. To all my Zoner
friends, fellow veterans, and newbies, it’s been quite the adventure. See you around, Kerri
